Welcome To CCMM
As Missionaries of Mariannhill, we invite you to be part of our life as contemplatives in action. We welcome you into our community. Together let us serve humanity in friendship and love. In solidarity and friendship we establish the kingdom of God which has no boundaries. Take up the challenge with us to be instrumental to the transformation of humanity and the world. Stand with us as we loudly proclaim to the whole world that both women and men and all creation are infinitely beloved. We cherish and embrace the uniqueness of persons as we celebrate the mystery of our membership one of another in the Body of Christ. You can walk with us on this journey of life as a brother, religious priest, lay associate or a friend. As contemplative missionaries rooted in the Gospel values we invite you to be with us as we work for integral human development.
The Mariannhillers, officially named the Congregation of the Missionaries of Mariannhill are a religious institute of the Catholic Church founded by Dom Franz Pfanner.
Mariannhillers
The Mariannhillers, officially named the Congregation of the Missionaries of Mariannhill (Latin: Congregatio Missionariorum de Mariannhill; abbreviated CMM) are a religious institute of the Catholic Church founded by Dom Franz Pfanner. They were originally a monastery of Trappist monks founded in 1882 by Pfanner, but were later branched off as a separate congregation by decree of the Holy See. The name of the congregation comes from Mariannhill, a suburb near Pinetown in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, where the congregation was first established.
"Within his wonderful heart (Christ’s) there are remedies to heal all our weaknesses ".
Our Units
Abbot Francis Pfanner is our founder and father of our spiritual and apostolic life. His spirituality has left its mark on our own way of life and has influenced where we are in the world. In 1879 at a request for Trappist monks to go to Africa, Abbot Francis responded, “If no one goes, I will go”. As Missionaries of Mariannhill this response poses a constant challenge to our own availability to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and to the mandate entrusted to our Congregation. True to the saying of Abbot Francis that “Our mission field is a part of the kingdom of Christ, and that has no boundaries” as Missionaries of Mariannhill we are in Africa; South Africa, Moçambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia and East Africa;, in Europe; Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Italy and Spain; in the United States of America and Canada; in Colombia; Papua New Giunea.
